| AEA 10th Annual Conference |

The Association of Ethiopian Architects (AEA) held its 10th Annual Conference with a theme "Architecture and Development", on Saturday 24 June 2006.
AEA invited internationally renowned keynote speaker for the occasion, Professor Franz Oswald of Switzerland. Professor Oswald is an architect and educator who has lectured in several universities around the world. The Conference was convened at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) Conference Hall.
The general assembly endorsed two important bylaws which are detrimental to the practice of architecture: competition and ethical bylaw. It is believed that the introduction of these bylaws shall help to rectify mal practices flagrant in the current practice and shall have residual effect in the quality of the built environment.
To mark this important document AEA announced a special competition during the Conference. The grant to conduct the competition has been secured, which is expected to allow participation of practicing architects and students. Selected building material exhibition is another activity that took place during the conference. |

| SPECIFY 2006 EDITION |

This edition marks the fifth anniversary of SPECIFY: Building Product Information Catalogue. Since its introduction five years ago, the number of companies listed in the Catalogue has doubled and has made available diverse products and services to its users. With the increased expansion of the building industry, the need for organized information is becoming even more crucial year by year.
In 2005 SPECIFY introduced a website based catalogue complementary to the paper catalogue. With all its flexibility and versatility, the digital version is an ideal medium to promote building products and services. It provides easy updates of listed catalogue materials. In addition users can enjoy other services such as news, bids, and links to a variety of resources. Websites are nowadays becoming a norm and helps companies to make their presence globally. We congratulate those companies who have pioneered to put their detail information available to users on the web.
This edition has listed entries that range from roofing tiles, electro-mechanical products, sanitary fittings, wooden doors, internal and external finishes, decorative plaster, motorized shutters and gates, earth-moving equipments, curtain walls, furnishings, auditorium seats with built-in public address and voting systems, low voltage products and to aluminums products. The increase in content and diversity of materials listed in the catalogue is making SPECIFY more invaluable source of information for the building industry.
